Water Cooler Games served as the web's primary forum for "videogames with an agenda" — coverage of the uses of video games in advertising, politics, education, and other everyday activities, outside the sphere of entertainment.
The site was maintained at watercoolergames.org from 2003-2009, where it was edited by myself and Gonzalo Frasca. It is now archived here in full.
Last year, I found this bin Laden doll for sale in Singapore. A quick search through flickr shows that it is not the only one. There's even Osama toys for pets ("You can't get even but your pet can".) You can also get soap bubbles through Osama's ass. In Hong-Kong, you can even watch Osama and Bush puppets boxing each other.
This is just a small, random sample, but it is quite interesting that all the pictures were taken in Asia. I am sure you could get one of these dolls in the Western world but chances are they would be found to be offensive (ok, maybe not the one with the soap bubbles coming out of Osama's ass.) Is is because Asians are more detached from the war on terror or because they are more used to toyify certain topics? In any case, most of these toys seem to be created for adults, as practical jokes. I don't want to even think what would happen if you bought one of these and had to go through American airport security. Still, like it or not, Osama found himself a place in our culture and play is one of the available ways that we have to deal with reality.
Feel free to post more links to Osama-related toys.
