Water Cooler Games served as the web's primary forum for "videogames with an agenda" — coverage of the uses of video games in advertising, politics, education, and other everyday activities, outside the sphere of entertainment.
The site was maintained at watercoolergames.org from 2003-2009, where it was edited by myself and Gonzalo Frasca. It is now archived here in full.
As we anticipated, Nintendo is releasing a Mario-themed version of Dance Dance Revolution, along with a GameCube compatible dancepad. The game doesn't appear to have any particular gameplay changes over normal DDR during dance mode, but Nintendo has woven a Mario-style quest game into the title. Specifically, Mario must "recover the stolen Music Keys before the unstable power of music destroys the entire Mushroom Kingdom." I couldn't hear the music on the loud show floor, but it appears to be similar to the Donkey Konga tracks, including classic Nintendo themes and recognizable songs.
Red Octane, makers of the Ignition dance pads, also announced a new DDR-style game for PS2. In The Groove is a port of the arcade title of the same name, which features wacky controllable arrow effects like spinning arrows and accelerating arrows. A new version of DDR Extreme is also coming, with new music and more Eye Toy support.
Update: I forgot to mention Karaoke Revolution Party, the combination of Konami's Karaoke Revolution and Dance Dance Revolution games. So, now you can sing and dance at the same time.
