Water Cooler Games
Water Cooler Games served as the web's primary forum for "videogames with an agenda" — coverage of the uses of video games in advertising, politics, education, and other everyday activities, outside the sphere of entertainment.

The site was maintained at watercoolergames.org from 2003-2009, where it was edited by myself and Gonzalo Frasca. It is now archived here in full.

Geo-Political Simulator

categories: Political Games

CNN reports on Commander in Chief, a game that lets you play the President. The title appears to actually bear the title Geo-Political SImulator 2009, and has been around at least since 2008, although I didn't know about it.

The developer describes the game as "an extremely thorough and realistic simulation of the planet, at all levels: politics, the economy, environment, the military, science, culture, religion..."

A trailer on the developer's website seems to depict a choice-based simulation game, but footage of army units may also suggest that it includes some RTS-like elements. I guess we'll have to try it and see.

You mean the people at Eversim figured out how the world works and stuck it into a game? Sweet!

This is an interesting concept, although I am not sure how successful it will be given that most people I think are looking for more action. I will definately take a look at the game though.
