Water Cooler Games
Water Cooler Games served as the web's primary forum for "videogames with an agenda" — coverage of the uses of video games in advertising, politics, education, and other everyday activities, outside the sphere of entertainment.

The site was maintained at watercoolergames.org from 2003-2009, where it was edited by myself and Gonzalo Frasca. It is now archived here in full.

Kyocera Cameraphone Advergame

categories: Advergames

Mobile handset maker Kyocera has released Red Carpet Blitz, a new advergame promoting their Koi/KX2 phone. The game does a good job incorporating the features of the phone into the gameplay. You play as a photographer trying to capture celebrity photos at a movie opening. You earn more points from your editor based on the composition and subjet of your shots. The game runs a little slowly, but the production value is high.

Apparently Kyocera is also running rich media blog ads with leaderboards for the game, a nice way to lure players into the experience through media buys without asking them to punch a monkey. Incidentally, the game was created by my old crew at Media Revolution, nicely done guys!
