Water Cooler Games served as the web's primary forum for "videogames with an agenda" — coverage of the uses of video games in advertising, politics, education, and other everyday activities, outside the sphere of entertainment.
The site was maintained at watercoolergames.org from 2003-2009, where it was edited by myself and Gonzalo Frasca. It is now archived here in full.
On March 15 Ivan Allen College of Georgia Tech is presenting the Ivan Allen Jr. Award for Progress and Service to legendary game designer Will Wright, Co-Founder and Chief Designer of Maxis, and creator of Sim City and the Sims.
In honor of Will and in celebration of the 10th anniversary of Digital Media degree programs at Georgia Tech, we are holding a Symposium on Living Game Worlds: Community, Simulation, and the Future of Entertaiment, at the Biltmore Hotel in midtown Atlanta, all day Wednesday March 16. Participants include Chris Crawford, Bing Gordon, Paul Marino, Celia Pearce, Ken Perlin, and others.
Those of you in the Atlanta area (or who want to travel to Atlanta) are welcome to come, however this is a limited seating event, and you have to register in advance. For out of town attendees, rooms are available at the nearby Georgia Tech Hotel.
