Water Cooler Games served as the web's primary forum for "videogames with an agenda" — coverage of the uses of video games in advertising, politics, education, and other everyday activities, outside the sphere of entertainment.
The site was maintained at watercoolergames.org from 2003-2009, where it was edited by myself and Gonzalo Frasca. It is now archived here in full.
From October 16 through November 7, the Curzon Soho in London is hosting a game art show, Videogames with an Agenda. The show features work by Martin LeChevallier, Molleindustria, Newsgaming, T. Michael Keesey and myself and Gonzalo, who have also curated the show.
The show is tied to the UK release of the documentary The Corporation, a film critique of corporate practice. We're excited to be associated with the film. I was asked to create a new game for the exhibit, specifically relating to the theme of the film. The result is Horde of Directors, a simple game created by myself and my old friend and collaborator T. Michael Keesey. The game is based on Ars Electronica 2002 Golden Nica winner they rule by Josh On. Many thanks to Josh for his permission and for publicly releasing the data from they rule.
Hope to see some of you in London! You can also Download the show poster (632k PDF) and spread the word.
