The School of Literature, Communication, and Culture of the Georgia Institute of Technology seeks applications from digital media theorist-practitioners with a Ph.D. (field open) to fill a tenure-track position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. 

We seek a specialist in public media, whose research focuses on new forms of digital media that transform the ways people live, solve problems, and construct meaning in communities from the local to the global scale. The successful candidate should have an established program of research, one that uses experimental digital design and creation to reinvent public media, education, and/or social practice. Possible specialties include but are not limited to: computational journalism, social media, global citizenship, knowledge systems, and computational creativity. Researchers whose work deals either in local communities or in the developing world are of particular interest. The successful candidate will not simply focus on technical innovation, but will motivate his or her computational invention through a strong background in the history, cultural context, and craft practice of his or her area of expertise. 


The School of Literature, Communication, and Culture supports several undergraduate and graduate degrees, offers a growing program in computational media and digital media, and provides a core of humanities studies for the Institute. Candidates should be prepared to teach across the standard curriculum of the School's BS in Computational Media and MS/PhD in Digital Media. They should also be prepared to collaborate with faculty and students in the School's Science, Technology, and Culture and Communication programs. Finally, candidates will be expected to form new connections and improve existing ones between the School of Literature, Communication, and Culture and other schools in the Ivan Allen College (including Public Policy and International Affairs), as well as with other colleges in the institution (including the College of Computing and the College of Architecture).
