Switched.com ran a story offering their assement of The Best Tech Writing of 2010, and my piece Cow Clicker: The Making of Obsession. I’m in good company, too: others in the top 15 include Zadie Smith, Malcolm Gladwell, William Gibson, Gary Kasparov, and the inimitable Onion.

I’d never heard of Switched.com, but apparently it’s a reasonably popular AOL technology lifestyle site.

I’ll admit that I’m often a bit worn out from all the year-end Top X of Y lists, but being on them certainly does help reduce my skepticism. Speaking of top X lists, Cow Clicker also appears on two of Gamasutra’s 2010 lists: Top 5 Cult Games and Top 5 Biggest Controversies.

Last year was the year of the tiger in the Chinese zodiac, but for me 2010 was clearly the year of the cow.

Incidentally, here’s an assessment of the fate of a union between the tiger and the ox: “Almost impossible to make it work”.

    Hi Ian,

Congratulations. It was a very good piece and I’m very happy that it’s been recognised as such. I’ve always been a fan of your writing (the style as much as the content) and am ever hoping for the sequel to Unit Operations. Maybe this year?

    Cheers,
